KGSF has been admitting international students since 2006 and now we have 52 alumni in 18 countries around the world. We are planning to set up regional alumni associations so that they continue to network with each other after graduation. Although online communication works effectively, we still need face-to-face meetings in the real world to develop long-term relationships. We are taking the first step to setting up offline relationships.

Last month, one of our faculty members, Professor Jisoo Kim, visited to Uzbekistan in order to support the regional alumni reunion. Professor Kim and our five alumni living in Uzbekistan had a gathering in Tashkent. They were all excited to meet after a long time and even outside Korea. They discussed how to establish an alumni association. As a result of this meeting, the Uzbekistan alumni association was launched and Nurbek Darvishev was elected as the representative of the group. He will manage their regular meetings, and he will be in charge of maintaining contact between the alumni and our school.

Nurbek said, “We are very happy to meet Professor Kim here and enjoy our time with him. In the meeting all of us shared our success stories after KAIST and how KAIST has helped us become better specialists, and better people. KAIST played a very important role in my life too. Therefore, I felt it necessary to take this opportunity to become the alumni representative. I will do my best to make a good contribution to the development of KAIST and sustain the alumni network.”

During the trip, Professor Kim also visited to The Central Bank of Uzbekistan, The Uzbekistan Fund for Reconstruction and Development, and The National Bank FEA, where our alumni are working. The purpose of his visit was to learn more about the organizations and to discuss how fields of work to get information that can possibly be applied to developing our education program.

KGSF has more plans to visit our alumni’s countries to continue organizing the alumni association the next year. We expect this event will connect our alumni with each other and increase their engagement with the school.
