On April 16th, 2016 an earthquake struck the coast of Ecuador with a magnitude of 7.8, leaving at least 660 deaths and more than 27,000 injured as well as immeasurable damage to the infrastructure. Fortunately, our two Ecuadorean alumni, Luisana and Jessica, who returned to their home country, were safe. And Daniela, who is currently a KAIST student from Ecuador, was relieved after she was ensured that her family was safe. However their sadness was beyond expression as many others suffered from the natural disaster.

To help them, KAIST College of Business Student Council with Daniela held ‘A Night of Ecuador’ – supported by the social venture enterprise ‘BREATH (CEO: Sarah Sowe)’, the Embassy of Ecuador, and various musicians as a charity concert for earthquake victims in Ecuador – on May 9th in the 2nd floor of SUPEX, Atrium. The performances were led under the direction of pianist Sarah Sowe, accompanied by guitars, drums and a saxophone. During the concert, artistic groups of traditional dances of Ecuador performed as well.

Many KCB members attended the concert to help Ecuadorians and share in their suffering. The funds raised were delivered to the Ambassador of Ecuador who also joined the concert.

We believe Ecuador will overcome this adversity and all victims will heal with time. We all pray for the people of Ecuador.
