On the morning of March 10th, KOICA and international KGSF students began a journey to one of the most beautiful misty slopes of Obongsan Mountain. The main destination was Cheongpyeongsa Temple, which was built in year 973 during the reign of King Gwangjong of the Goryeo Dynasty. The temple provided the visitors with mystical and traditional stories, and to reach the place, the students took an enjoyable ferry ride along the Soyang Lake. Also, a relaxing walk through the mountain was required before reaching this symbolic and remarkable temple representing Korean history.

After the taking unforgettable pictures and hearing stories about this magical place, the students left the temple to enjoy an exquisite and traditional lunch. Chuncheon is known as a famous chicken farming region and for preparing one of the most delightful dishes of the Korean cuisine. “Dakgalbi” or chicken ribs, consist of chicken, sliced cabbage, sweet potatoes, and scallions; all of them mixed with a spicy but delicious sauce. Of course, the traditional kimchi could not be missing from this pleasant meal.

Finally, one last attraction awaited the international students willing to have a day full of adventure and memorable experiences. The Gangchon Rail Park offered the perfect activity to enjoy the lovely Bukhangang River scenery. Built on a discontinued train line that connects Seoul with Chuncheon, this rail park is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Korea where visitors can pedal along old railroad tracks, and experience the exciting and relaxing mountainous landscapes.

Exhausted after a great journey through nature and Korean culture, accompanied with the enthusiasm of adventure and mystical stories, the students returned to KAIST. Most important for them: memories that will remain in their lives framed by happiness and gratitude that KAIST has been able to offer them.
