“Hiked the Himalayas and delivered the warm-hearted gifts”2017-07-06Hit:699

The Professional MBA (PMBA), a part-time MBA program at KAIST College of Business, formed the ‘Himalaya Expedition’ to take on the challenge of hiking Himalayas, and to volunteer in a poor village in Nepal.

According to KAIST College of Business, the KAIST MBA Himalayan Expedition, consisting of 10 PMBA students and professors, visited Mahadevbesi, a poor village in Nepal, on the 5th of May, after hiking in the Himalaya Mountains in early May.

The expedition delivered books, school supplies, and backpacks for the students, and built the ‘KCB Library’ in the village.  Also, they provided lunch as one of volunteer activities.

Prior to the visit, the expedition organized a fundraising campaign (KAIST Climb for Hope) to purchase books for donation to help raise the dreams and hopes of students at an outdated school facility. They collected more than 20 million won.

Choi, Min-sung (student of PMBA ’15), the leader of the expedition, said, “Although we had difficulties preparing the expedition, we learned a lot more than we expected. I hope the next challenge will be hiking Everest and continuing to share activities.”

Professor Yoon, Yeosun, the advisor of the expedition, said, “In addition to exploring knowledge in the classroom, I think students should learn to challenge new things together with people outside the classroom, and a true leader should start looking from the low point. KCB is focusing on nurturing leaders who can find ways to communicate with the community and grow together.”

In addition to the Himalayan Expedition, KAIST College of Business hosts a science camp for children from multicultural families through marathon fund-raising activities. It also works with the community through various service activities such as sponsoring children from local low-income families, providing meals for the homeless, running a blood drive, and sharing knowledge via online MBA courses on AfreecaTV.
