Professor Lee Jae Kyu (KAIST) to serve as president of Association for Information Systems (AIS)2015-07-16Hit:940
Prof. Lee, a chair-professor of KAST College of Business, will serve AIS as president from July 2015 to June 2016. AIS is the field’s largest academic association in which more than 4000 scholars from 90 countries participate in.
For the past year, Prof. Lee sought his role and responsibility for contributing to the international society as the next president, and announced that “Bright Internet” will be selected as the next AIS’s official vision. Furthermore, he established a focal goal to develop the appropriate technology and system to fundamentally mitigate the problems online caused by cyber terror.
Both the extent and the magnitude of damage caused by cyber terror have recently amplified and as a result, servers polluted by ‘Zombie Computers’ send a daily total of 56 billion spam mails and the social cost of internet crime have reached 4000 billion dollars. In this context, cyber terror experts are becoming more concerned about destruction of finance and transportation infrastructure and potential harm caused by the misuse of driverless vehicles via IOT.
AIS aim to establish a highly defensive internet security system based on “Bright Internet” and adopt the principle which hold the ‘perpetrators’ responsible for the damage. Furthermore, AIS plans to modify the current technology and system to minimize invasion of privacy while maintaining the level of security and cooperate with ITU to provide an international standard.
“The “Bright Internet” vision was initiated from the awareness and needs of help from authorities around the globe to ultimately solve such problems caused by internet addiction, verbal abuse and indiscriminate exposure; this problems are becoming a serious social problem and must not be neglected….This vision will bring about an internet platform evolution based on future trust and will also provide new opportunities for Korea” said Prof. Lee.
