Seoul Climate-Energy Holds a Conference to Discuss about New Climate System after Trump2017-01-19Hit:879

An international conference was held to discuss the future impacts and countermeasures against U.S president-elect Donald Trump’s withdraw from the Paris Climate Change Convention.

The 3rd Seoul Climate-Energy Conference, co-hosted by KAIST Graduate School of Green Growth and Our Future Corporation, was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Westin Chosun Hotel in Sogong-Dong, Seoul.

The Seoul Climate-Energy Conference is an international conference that presents the global society’s awareness of climate change and its policy direction. More than 500 people who are climate experts from government departments, international organizations, academia, and industry participate annually.   

Starting with the congratulatory speech of former Prime Minister Hwang-Sik Kim,
who co-chaired the Green Growth Committee, Young-Pyo Hwang, the Chairman of the Environment and Labor Committee of the National Assembly, and Rep. Byoung-Kuk Chung, Se-Jung Oh each presented their position and message on climate change.

Hwan-Ik Cho, the President of KEPCO, delivered the keynote speech on the “New Climate Energy Era and Role of KEPCO”.

Through his congratulatory speech, UN Secretary-General Ki-Moon Ban emphasized that “the Paris Convention on Climate Change opened the dawn of global corporation, and the civil society actors will continue to be powerful champions that drive action in the climate change era”.

The main theme of this year’s conference was “Marrakech Conference and New Climate Regime in
2020.” The conference was divided into four sessions, which are national measures, energy conversion strategy, international carbon market, global green growth cooperation.

In particular, as the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was elected as the next president of the United States, the impacts of the Paris Climate Change Convention on the global climate response system and international collaboration were discussed during each session.
