Operation of winter semester guidance 2020-12-01Hit:422

We inform you of the operation and related matters(Course Add/Drop/Withdrawal) for the 2020 winter semester as below.

Please be aware of the changes to avoid any mistakes when registering for the winter semester.

 

1. Operation of 2020 winter semester 

A. Course lists : Portal(http://portal.kaist.ac.kr)⇒ Academic System⇒ Courses Offered

 

B. Number of credits The maximum of 9 credits(including research credits) are allowed.

(Applicable to master's and Ph.D. program)

 

C. Operation of winter semester courses : All winter semester courses will take place online. However, the simultaneous

implementation of online and offline classes (hereinafter referred to as ‘simultaneous implementation’) will be allowed for the below

cases, and those should comply with the limits on the number of participants depending on social distancing levels.

① Undergraduate and graduate courses that are experiment/lab based and have a strong need for offline classes

② Main Campus: Graduate courses with a course number or 600 or higher

③ Seoul Campus: Graduate courses

④ All other classes shall take place online, except courses that have received authorization for offline classes because there is

   a strong need

• Students can choose between offline or online class participation.

• Please adhere to safety guidelines for offline classes. (Refer to the .)

2. Winter Semester Course Add/Drop 

A. Course Add/ Drop Period : 2020.12.16(Wed) 9:30~ 2020.12.23(Wed) 23:59

 

B. How to : Log on to Portal(http://portal.kaist.ac.kr)⇒ Academic System⇒ ’Class Enrolment’ Click→ Add new classes or drop/

    change classes at ‘Course Registration’ or ‘Course Registration(Exceptions)’ Menu. (not available on mobile equipment)

 

C. Opening hours of course registration system

[Graduate] From 09:30 on 12.16(Wed) to before 23:59 on 12.23(Wed)

→ Course Add/Drop available all time during the period

   

D. Procedure

1) ‘Course Registration’ menu : Select Course→ Add Courses with ‘Application’ button or Drop the courses with ‘Delete’ button

※ Additional function to make ‘Wish List’ for desired courses : By adding a "wish" button in the list of courses offered at course 

   registration menu, students can make and save a course wish list. The saved wish list will be displayed at the top of the list when

   viewing the offered courses.

2) ‘Course Registration(Exceptions)’ menu  : Select Course→ Select Application Type & Application Reason→ Confirm Request Click

If the approval of the course instructor is required, such as a special lecture with different subtitle or courses exceeding enrolment limit,

  use the Course Registration(Exception) menu.

- ‘Course registration(exception) menu’ will be closed at Dec. 21th(Mon), 2020, which is two days before the course

   Add/Drop period ends. Applications that remain unapproved until two days before the course Add/Drop period ends will be automatically 

   cancelled. Students must take the necessary measures before the deadline.

 

E. Matters to be attended

1) Students must apply for courses during the given period only.

2) Students included in the randomly selected list (of the courses exceed their enrollment ceilings) cannot cancel the courses during the registration period but during the Add/drop period students may change or cancel their classes.

3) Online application system requires a portal access (with PORTAL ID)

4) Since the online system recognizes the Special Topics with different subtitles as a single course, you can register the course as different one by applying at “Course Registration(Exception) Menu” or by submitting Course Add/drop form with the signature of the course professor to Academic Registrar's Team during Course Add/drop period.(Refer to “Taking Special Courses” at Course Bulletin)

5) Students who are expected to graduate or who have taken a leave of absence in the particular semester can not take any winter courses offered during that same semester.

      

3. Winter Semester Course Withdrawal   

A. Course Withdrawal Period :  2020.12.24(Thu) 12:30~ 2021.01.04(Mon) 23:59

※ The grade of a withdrawn course is not included in students' grade point average; students are given a "W" (withdrawal) on their transcripts(Should students take the withdrawn courses in the future, "W" grades on their transcripts will be deleted).

 

B. How to : Log on to Portal(http://portal.kaist.ac.kr)⇒ Academic System⇒ ‘Class Enrolment’ Click→ Drop classes at ‘Course Registration’ or ‘Course Registration(Exceptions)’ Menu. (not available on mobile equipment)

 

C. System opening hours : From 12:30(daytime) of the starting day of the drop period to before 23:59(night) of the end day of the drop period 

※ ‘Course registration(exception) menu’ will be closed at Jan. 30th(Wed), 2021, which is two days before the course Add/Drop period ends. Applications that remain unapproved until two days before the course Add/Drop period ends will be automatically cancelled. Students must take the necessary measures before the deadline.

 

D. Procedure : same as the procedure for Add/Drop courses
