Opening Ceremony for ‘KAIST SVIP’
On June 14th, 강성모, the president of KAIST, announced the organization of a research center, Silicon Valley Innovation Platform (SVIP), in the Silicon Valley, the mecca of innovation.
KAIST held the opening ceremony for SVIP at KOTRA Silicon Valley IT Center in San Jose, California in the United States.
Around 100 prominent figures including 이종문, the chairman of Ambex Group, 한동만, the Korean Consul General stationed in San Francisco, and KAIST local alumni were invited in the opening ceremony.
강성모 said in the opening ceremony, “I am happy about entering the Silicon Valley, the mecca of innovation.” He also said, “I am expecting that SVIP will gather information on advanced technology and offer an opportunity to follow the trend in technology.”
이종문 said, “Governments from around the world focus on and work together with the Silicon Valley. On contrast, the Korean government and universities do not virtually work together with the Silicon Valley, even though ten Korean universities have offices in Silicon Valley.” He also said, “Therefore, I have great expectations for SVIP.”
KAIST will use SVIP as the place for information exchange between Korean executives and entrepreneurs, local enterprises, local residents, and alumni. Also SVIP will gather and analyze information on new trends in technology.
SVIP will offer education in how to a start venture business. And it will search for and support prominent Korean entrepreneurs to enter the USA. SVIP will also hold a forum for Executive MBA students.
