2026 Spring Semester Course Registration Guide

(Registration & Add/Drop & Withdrawal period)

 

 

Please refer to the following procedures and methods for Spring semester courses registration.

 

All matriculating students, enrolled students and students expected to return to school should complete course registration within the course registration period or the course Add/Drop period. Please note that students cannot apply for classes after the course Add/Drop period.

 

Also, if you apply for a credits under the minimum required credit per semester, you will get an academic warning. Also, undergraduate students who have completed graduation requirement credits except for AU should also register at least 1 credit to avoid academic warning due to not registering any courses.

 

* 2026 Spring Semester begins on Monday, March 2.

1. Course registration period 

A. Course registration period12:30 on Monday, Jan. 5, 2026 ~ before 23:59 on Friday, Jan. 9, 2026

 

B. Registration is open for all current students(Undergraduates, Master's and Ph. D. students), all matriculating students(Undergraduates, Master's and Ph. D. students)and returning students(Undergraduates, Master's and Ph. D. students expected to return to school for 2026 Spring Semester).

 

C. Course registration : Course Registration System (https://sugang.kaist.ac.kr) ⇒ Course Registration Click (Randomly selected system)

※ You can also click on the "Course Registration" shortcut available on the portal.

 

D. Procedure : ①Honor Code  ②Check the class lists on Web → ③Register for classes on Web

 

 Log on to Course Registration System(https://sugang.kaist.ac.kr)

① [Honor Code Pledge] : At the main page of Course Registration System, online signature is available on pledge to enhance sense of ethics and responsibility (*Consent is required once every semester from 10 days before the start date of course registration to the end of course add/drop period/ Effective from 2021 Fall semester).

 

 (Students exceeding normal academic period) [Check the Notice of Prescribed Time Limit] : In case of students exceeding normal academic period, Click 'I checked' button in the notice at the main page of Course Registration System (*Check is required once every semester from 10 days before the start date of course registration to the end of course add/drop period/ Effective from 2025 Fall semester)

 

② [Portal → Academic → Academic Affairs → Classes → View All Offered Courses] or [Course Registration System → View All Offered Courses]

 

③ Course Registration System → 'Course Registration' Click → 'Add' Click

※ Check Course Operation Method: View All Offered Courses  Course Name → Check ‘Remarks’ and ‘Lecture Type’

 

E. Opening hours of course registration system 

 

 From January 5 (Mon) 12:30 to before 23:59, open enrollment without ceilings for all the courses.

 January 6(Tue) : No registration is possible and random selection is processed.

→Students will be randomly selected for the courses that exceed their enrollment ceilings; Randomly selected students list for the courses will be announced. (on portal before 18:00 p.m.)

→Courses that students aren't selected for will be automatically deleted from the student's course registration list. 

 From January 7(Wed) 12:30 to before January 9(Fri) 23:59, students may register for the remaining courses on a first-come first-serve basis.

 

F. Matters to be attended while registering courses

1) Students must apply for courses during the given period only.

 

2) Course Registration System requires a portal access (with PORTAL ID)

(For issues related to the account: Portal → My Page (top right icon) → My Info Settings → Personal Information Settings)

 

3) Students included in the randomly selected list(of the courses exceed their enrollment ceilings) can not cancel the courses during the course registration period. (However, during the Add/drop period, students may change or cancel their classes)

 

4) Students must obtain the course professor's approval online by up to three days before the end of the course add/drop period when registering for retake courses. 

 

 Online course retake approval periodCourse registration period and no later than 23:59 on three days before the end of the course add/drop period. Please be aware that if you fail to obtain approval by the deadline, your retake course registration will be canceled automatically.

 

② When the online course retake application has been denied by the course professor or automatically canceled due to non-approval within the deadlineStudents must re-apply for retake at the Course Registration(Exceptions) menu, or submit the application form to the KCB Academic & Student Affairs Team office with the approval of the professor in charge (*Academic Form No.12_Course Add/Drop Application & Confirmation for Course Retake (Graduate)) or by e-mail during the course add/drop period.

 

5) Retaking a special lecture course is only permitted if the subtitle and subtitle code are exactly the same. For courses taken prior to Fall Semester 2024 that did not have subtitle codes assigned, students must consult with the department and obtain the appropriate subtitle code before applying for retake

 

6) Additional function to make ‘Wish List’ for desired courses: By adding a "wish" button in the list of courses offered at course registration menu, students can make and save a course wish list. The saved wish list will be displayed at the top of the list when viewing the offered courses (Note that courses in the wishlist are not officially registered)

 

7) Due to the use of a new course code starting from the 2025 Spring semester, you can apply for Special Topic courses with different subtitles during the course registration period. (Note: If the subtitle code is not assigned to the grade of an existing special Topic course, you must first complete the subtitle code application through the [Portal] → [Academic] →  [Academic Affairs] → [Grades] → [Apply for Subtitle Code] menu.)

 

 

2. Course Add/Drop period 

A. Course Add/ Drop period :

[1-16/1-8] 9:30 on Monday, February 23, 2026 ~ before 23:59 on Monday, March 9, 2026

[9-16] 9:30 on Monday, April 27, 2026 ~ before 23:59 on Monday, May 4, 2026

※ You can apply for the courses even if you didn't register for any courses in the initial registration period. However, please note that course registration will not be possible after the Add/Drop deadline, so be sure to adhere to the schedule.  

 

B. How to : Course Registration System (https://sugang.kaist.ac.kr⇒ Add new classes or drop/change classes at ‘Course Registration’ or ‘Course Registration(Exceptions)’Menu.

 

1) ‘Course Registration’ menu: Select Course → Add Courses with ‘Add’ button or Drop the courses with ‘Delete’ button

 

2) ‘Course Registration(Exceptions)’ menuSelect Course → Select Application Type & Reason for Application → Click Request

 

 If the approval of the course professor is required, such as courses exceeding enrollment limit, use the Course Registration(Exception) menu.

 

 ‘Course registration(exception) menu’ will be closed at March 5, 2026 (1-16/1-8) or April 30 (9-16) which is two days before the course Add/Drop period ends. Any applications that remain unapproved until two days before the end of the course Add/Drop period will be automatically canceled. Students must take necessary measures before the deadline.

 

※ Courses approved through the "Course Registration(Exception)" menu cannot be re-applied for using the same menu after the course is dropped. To re-apply, you must submit a Course Add/Drop Application Form(No.12_Graduate (Link)), including the course professor’s signature to the KCB Academic & Student Affairs Team (through this email address) within the course Add/Drop period.

 

※ Courses rejected by the course professor through the Course Registration (Exception) menu cannot be re-applied for using that same menu. To re-apply, you must either email the KCB Academic & Student Affairs Team with the professor's approval email (to request 'Re-application Permission'), or submit a Course Add/Drop Application Form including the signature (or approval email) of the course professor to the KCB Academic & Student Affairs Team during the course Add/Drop period. 

 

 Once Course registration(exception) menu is closed, students who wish to make changes to their course registration must submit a course Add/Drop application in paper form (No.12_Graduate (Link)including the course professor’s signature to the KCB Academic & Student Affairs Team (through this email address) within the course Add/Drop period.

 - For week 1-6 and 1-8 classes : March 9(Mon), 18:00

 - For week 9-16: May 4(Mon), 18:00

 

 

C. Opening hours of course registration system

[Graduate] From 09:30 on Feb.23(Mon) to before 23:59 on Mar.9(Mon) 

→ Course Add/Drop available all time during the period

 

D. Matters to be attended

1) Students must apply for courses during the given period only.

 

2) Course Registration System requires a portal access (with PORTAL ID)

(For issues related to the account: Portal → My Page (top right icon) → My Info Settings → Personal Information Settings)

 

3) For detailed information about the retake course registration, please refer to the retake notice.

① Online course retake approval period(Course Registration menu): Course registration period and no later than 23:59 on three days(03/04) before the end of the course add/drop period. Please be aware that if you fail to obtain approval by the deadline, your retake course registration will be canceled automatically.

 

② Online course retake approval period(exception menu): Course registration period and no later than 23:59 on Two days(03/05) before the end of the course add/drop period. Please be aware that if you fail to obtain approval by the deadline, your retake course registration will be canceled automatically.

 

③ When the online course retake application has been denied by the course professor or automatically canceled due to non-approval within the deadline : Students must re-apply for retake at the Course Registration(Exceptions) menu, or submit the application form to the Academic Registrar's Team(ART) office with the approval of the professor in charge (*Academic Form No.12_Course Add/Drop Application & Confirmation for Course Retake (Graduate)) or by e-mail during the course add/drop period.(03/09).

 

 For retake course, students must pay separate tuition fee(50,000kw per 1 credit or 1 AU). If you dont pay for tuition fee during the payment period for Spring semester(03.10(Tue.) 12:00 ~ 03.17(Tue.) 23:59), retake course will be canceled. 

 

4) [Master’s]Total of 9 credits of special courses are allowed to be taken in master’s program.

 

5) Individual research credits can be recognized up to 12 credits per semester as determined by the student's advisor, and up to a total of 15 credits. 

※ If it is not the same semester, it is allowed to apply for individual research again from the same professor.

 

6) After the course registration and add/drop period, one will get academic warning if the final credits registered per semester is below the minimum credit specified for each program. Students with only AU or no course registered will be expelled from school.(→School regulation Article 34, 67, 86, Guidelines on Curriculum Management Article 15, Guidelines on Enrollment and Course Registration Procedures Article 4.)

 ※ [Graduate] Master's/doctoral students must apply for at 9~12 credits(Full-time),1~9 credits(Part-time) per semester, including research credits. However, student can apply for up to 18 credits(Full-time), 12 credits(Part-time) when recommended by the advisor and approved by the department head. 

 

 

 3. Course Withdrawal period 

A. Course Withdrawal period : 

[1-16] Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. ~ Friday, April 17, 2026 at 23:59 p.m.

[1-8] Tuesday, March 10, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. ~ Friday, March 13, 2026 at 23:59 p.m.

[9-16] Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at 12:30 p.m. ~ Friday, May 8, 2026 at 23:59 p.m. 

 During the course withdrawal period, only dropping courses is permitted. Withdrawing from courses after this period is not allowed.

 

B. How to : Course Registration System (https://sugang.kaist.ac.kr) ⇒ 'Course Registration' Click ⇒ drop classes at ‘Course Registration’ 

: Click Delete to withdraw courses

※ No use of exception menu for the course withdrawal.

 

C. Matters to be attended 

1) The grade of a withdrawn course is not included in students' grade point average; students are given a "W" (withdrawal) on their transcripts.

(→Should students retake the “W” given courses, "W" grades on their transcripts will be deleted.)

 

2) Total number of credits for the remaining courses after the course add/drop period. (→Reference : School regulation article 67, Guidelines on Curriculum Management article 15, Guidelines on Enrollment and Course Registration Procedures article 4)

① Every full-time graduate student has to take minimum of 9 credits each semester(Part time 1 credit).
