Abstract:
The explosion of inexpensive processors and the proliferation of wireless networks is driving connectivity often referred to as the Internet of Things. Many of the planned applications are centered on the use of sensors, which will require deployment and the build out of networks. Partnering with University of California Berkeley, AT&T has developed an approach which utilizes current technology in the form of aggregated and anonymized cell tower traces to imply urban activities for Smart City Transportation Planning while preserving customer privacy.

In this talk, we will discuss the hidden Markov Models that we have developed to infer travelers activities and their application to the traffic planning in San Francisco.
