On July 10, 2007, based upon the mutual understanding of the primacy of globalization of both schools, Singapore Management University (SMU) and KAIST Business School agreed to offer joint fast-track program to pursue a dual degree. Students are expected to study for the first 3 years at SMU in Singapore, and then they will study 2 more years at the KAIST Business School. After that they will be awarded dual Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees within 5 years instead of six years, as is normally the case. Also, students can set up more varied study tracks with the programs both school are providing: Students can choose one from the two SMU schools for their Bachelor’s degree: School of Business and School of Information Systems. KAIST Business School consists of three independent schools: KAIST Graduate School of Management (KGSM), including Management Engineering (ME); KAIST Graduate School of Finance (KGSF); and, KAIST Graduate School of Information and Media. Therefore, excellent students can set up more flexible study plans in a shorter time frame. Both schools are endeavoring to recruit outstanding students: KAIST President Suh is personally visiting many high schools for the purpose of student recruitment. And, he is getting extremely positive responses from the high school students. More than that, both schools are doing their best to provide scholarships for excellent students. The starting number will be limited to those with the proper qualifications.
