We"d like to make an announcement of 2011 Winter semester 【2011. 12. 26(Mon) ~ 2012. 1. 27(Fri)】.
Detailed information on class lists, course add/drop courses, and withdrawal from courses is as below.
※ KCB Course Registration process Simplified
Starting from 2012 Spring Semester course registration, no hardcopy(course registration application,
add/drop application) will need to be submitted to the corresponding major offices. However, in case you want to
add or drop courses that’s already exceeded the maximum limit or falling short of the minimum number of students,
you still need to submit the hard copy to your major office after the approval of both your advisor and course professor.
1) Course Registration: Simplified in 2 steps
① Course Registration → ② Keep the printed Course registration application (by student)
2) Course add/drop: Simplified in 2 steps but *if needed, further process needs to be done
① Course add/drop → ② Keep the printed course add/drop application (student) → *if needed, go through
(③ course professor approval → ④ advisor professor approval → ⑤ Submit hardcopy to major office )
*If needed: process ③~⑤ should be done in case your course already exceed the maximum limit or
fall short of the minimum number of

C. Cross Course Registration Policy
1) During course registration period
① Students can register for the courses open for one"s major only, due to the priority matters.
2) During course change period
① To give opportunities to taking courses across all majors, students are allowed to register for courses
open for other majors from the first date of the course change period.
② The courses for cross course registration are limited. Students must check the Excel data or course
registration system first to find out if the course they are willing to register is open for cross course registration.
D. Add/drop Courses
1) Period : 12. 26(Mon.) 12:30 ~ 28(Wed.) 23:59
2) The way to add and drop courses
Log-on, Kaipa (http://kaipa.kaist.ac.kr) and you can apply for new course or add and drop is possible for
the course already applied for. ※ You can apply for the courses on the web, even though you didn"t apply for
any courses during the previous application period
E. Procedure of add and drop of course
① Log on Kaipa (http://kaipa.kaist.ac.kr) or Portal (http://portal.kaist.ac.kr)
② Check the courses offered for summer session
(Kaipa-> Inquiry of offered courses / Portal-> Webcais-> Academics-> Courses-> Offered Courses)
③ Log on Kaipa and add or drop the courses
④ If you finish the application, press the "complete" button ⇒ Print out the form of add or drop
⑤ After you get the signature from the adviser on the form of add or drop, submit it to the office of your department.
※ If you"d like to add or drop after you press the button "complete", you can add and drop
if you ask academic & student affairs team (kwsh93@business.kaist.ac.kr) to release the completion.
(Only during the add and drop period.)
F. Matters that requires your attention
① You"re required to apply for the course, during the add and drop period, using Kaipa(http://kaipa.kaist.ac.kr).
② Other person can"t apply for course instead of you, and you can log on the system for course registration with portal ID.
③ Student who is supposed to be graduated in August, 2010 can"t apply for the course.
④ Re-registration is available if you are a graduate or Ph. D student who received a "F" grade in required courses
(Mandatory general courses, Mandatory major courses).
⑤ “Thesis for Graduate Students” courses are not offered during the Summer/Winter semester
in accordance with the guidelines for the operation of undergraduate research courses.
E. Withdrawal from courses
1) Period
● Master"s, doctoral students 2009 or after undergraduate (2006 or before, 2009 or after)students :
2012. 1. 2(Mon.) 12:30 - 4(Wed.) 23:59
● Master"s, doctoral students(2008 or before), and Undergraduates (2007,2008)
2012. 1. 2(Mon.) 12:30 - 6(Fri.) 23:59
2) Use: Web System (http://kaipa.kaist.ac.kr)
3) Procedure : same as the procedure for add/drop courses
4) Miscellaneous
▫Students are not allowed to apply for other courses (only withdrawal is allowed) during the given period.
※ Students are not allowed to withdraw from courses after the given period.
▫The grade of a withdrawn course is not included in the grade point average; students are given
a "W" (withdrawal) on their transcripts.
