Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering’s shipyard is a popular field trip site for foreign students who want to learn how Korean shipbuilding industry succeeds. On the 26th, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering said that 65 students from Bangalore Business School (IIMB) attending KAIST MBA visited Kyungnam Geoje Okpo shipyard to learn Korea’s know-how on its successful shipbuilding industry.

These IIMB students are managers with at least 10 years of experience. As it was part of EPGP (Executive Post-Graduate Program), a KAIST MBA international exchange program, they visited Okpo Shipyard.

They observed great vessels and Goliath cranes at the shipyard and heard a briefing on Korea’s shipbuilding industry. India is surrounded with sea on 3 sides of its land just like Korea, so the demand of shipbuilding industry is high. However, the fact that the country lacks infra and know-how makes especially these students become interested in the industry.

After taking a trip around the site, Bopanna Nellamakada, a marine officer in India, said “I was very impressed with the huge shipyard and its skills” and “it was a great opportunity to check on a site of a leading country’s shipbuilding industry.

Okpo shipyard is becoming one of the must-see sites for foreign students; MBA students from prestigious schools overseas who are visiting Yonsei University came to Okpo shipyard. Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering sees this phenomenon as a result of the company’s long-term international relationship with nations such as China and Russia based on the fact that Korea has the number one competitive power in the shipbuilding.
