Since last year, KSGF has been connecting and engaging with our international alumni by hosting regional alumni networking events. As a result, two alumni associations were launched in Uzbekistan and Vietnam. This summer, our 3rd and 4th alumni associations were established during Professor Young-Gul Kim’s visit to Africa.

In August, Professor Young-Gul Kim, the Associate Dean of External Affairs, went on a mission trip with his wife to Uganda and Kenya. During his visit, he took some time off from his mission work to spend time with our alumni in the two countries. Consequently, the first regional alumni networking event in Africa took place in Kampala, Uganda with 3 alumni at a restaurant in the Glitzy Hotel Africana on August 6th. The group had a pleasant time sharing news about their work and families in addition to getting to know the Associate Dean. Steven Bameka, the alumni representative of Uganda, stated, “We are indeed humbled by the Professor Kim’s visit to Uganda and we look forward to visiting Korea more frequently in the near future. We would also like to thank KGSF for coordinating this incredible reunion in Uganda.”

The second alumni gathering took place in Nairobi, Kenya with 3 alumni on August 8th. The group enjoyed reminiscing and catching up the latest news about KAIST over delicious Kenyan traditional dishes which included a crocodile barbeque at the Carnivore Restaurant. Joseph Kamau, the alumni representative of Kenya, stated, “It was our pleasure welcoming Professor Kim and Mrs. to Kenya. We are sincerely grateful for giving us the chance to gather and interact. Needless to say, we are very thankful to the KCB fraternity for the opportunity to learn in such a great institution.” He concluded by sending his regards to the whole KCB community.

Upon his return, Professor Kim thanked the two regional groups for their genuine hospitality during his visit to Africa. “I am very proud of having met with such a loyal group of KCB alumni and promise to help the group with lifetime learning opportunities KCB offers online or offline,” said Professor Kim. He also wishes further professional success and blessings to the families of KGSF alumni.

Next year, KGSF plans to further expand the alumni gatherings in other regions to reconnect and network with our students. We hope to see many of our alumni in the near future and look forward to hearing from those interested in becoming alumni representative of your country/region.
