DSME has named the biggest chemical tanker, which is currently under construction, Bow Pioneer.
DSME said that it held a naming ceremony for the chemical tanker at Okpo Shipyard on the 29th of April. The tanker is being made for the Norwegian shipping company, Odfjell.
DSME’s CEO Ko Jae-ho, KAIST Professor Hong In-ki (the first CEO of DSME), the former Odfjell Chairman Bernt Daniel Odfjell and his family members, and many top executives of both companies attended this naming ceremony.
Bow Pioneer is one of two vessels that Odfjell ordered from DSME in June 2010. Its weight is about 75,000 DWT, which will make it the biggest chemical tanker in the world.
Bow Pioneer is named after the first chemical tanker of 25,500 DWT which was made by DSME three decades ago. The owner of the previous Bow Pioneer was also Odfjell (called Skibs A/S Storli at that time).
Bernt Daniel Odfjell, then chairman of Odfjell, ordered the tanker three decades ago, at which time DSME had no history of building vessels. DSME and Odfjell have maintained a bilateral corporate partnership since then.
“Bow Pioneer is the fruit of the partnership between two companies with connects in the past and the present”, said CEO Ko Jae-ho. “We hope that Bow Pioneer will bring more prosperity and blessings to Odfjell”, he added.
